As Moore's law reaches its limits, quantum computers hold the promise of solving types of problems far beyond the capability of existing computers.‎ For this to happen, quantum computers leverage quantum mechanical effects, most specifically superposition, to achieve massive computational parallelism.‎ Major areas that are expected to be revolutionized by quantum computation are chemistry and materials science, security and cryptography, artificial intelligence and financial services.‎ In this talk, an overview of the fundamentals of quantum computation, existing and future quantum hardware technologies, and example quantum algorithms will be presented.‎
