Province of Fars

The province of Fars, with an area of 133,000 Sq. Km,is located in the south of the province of Isfahan. The Beautiful and historic city ofShiraz is the capital city of this province. IST2005 will be held in Shiraz Homa Hotel.

In 1996, the population of this province was around 3,817,000, from which 56.7% were registered at urban dwellers,41.0% villagers and 1.4% nomad tribes.

The mountain chains of Zagros crosses the province from the north-west towards the south-east, and divides the province into 2 distinguishable parts.

There are three distinguishable climatic region in the province, the first, covers the northern, the western and the north-West mountainous area, with cold and moderate weather, as well as its significant green land. The second region is the central, which with moderate winter with plenty of rain, but a warm and dry summer. The third region is located on the south and the south-east of the province, which is significantly dry and moderate in winter, but very hot in summer, because of its low altitude.

The Province of Fars is one of the most famous Province of the Old Persian Empire, and modern Iran. It was located in a specious region of the oldest human civilization of the world, and was the capital of the Persian Empire for many centuries. Before the Islamic Period, two commanders raised from this region and each established their big monarchy; the Achaemands by the King Syrus, and the Sasanid, by the king Ardeshir Babakan. when the Acaemands were overthrown by the Alexander (so called the Great), the Salukis were brought to the power in 311 BC, and built many cities in the Fars region. Meanwhile, Iranians established their local governments in the central part of the region, in an area called Estakhr. Some coins remained from these local governments belong to the year 250 BC, contain some Iranian faces and fire places which indicate the Ancient Iranian beliefs to Zoroastrian. However, the Pars region was a part of the Salukis Empire till the Antioukhous IV Period. When the Partians liberated the central Parts of the Salukis Empire, Fars became an independent state. For this historical marvelous background, many different ancient marks and places remained in the province, to the present time. These historical and ancient remaining have their own values as a world-wide heritage and reflect the history of the province and the country.

Natural views and landscapes of the Province have remarkable values not only in local, but also in national level. More than 280 leisure places and malls are registered in the province which provide remarkable and suitable enviroment for leisure and recreation. Wild life in Bacbac area accommodates rare birds, while water falls and woollands of Sultan Shahbaz area,Marghab strait in the district of Estahban are of the main malls of the province.

The culture and the art of the province contribute to a large part of the world culture and art. National and local culture in Fars is extremely rich and includes different kinds of ceremonies, poets, literatures, songs and dances. The province has hosted, different kinds of people because of its location near the Persian Gulf, and its many resources for a long period of time. Different peoples, Aryans, the Samis and Turks have lived in this province. However, the native nomad tribes such as the Qashqais, the Mamesanis the Khamsas and the Koohkeloians, are still conserving a large part of the native culture of the region.

Shiraz

The city of Shiraz, the capital of Fars province, is located 919 Kilometers in south of Tehran, the capital city of Iran. The district of Shiraz enjoys a moderate weather with regular seasons. The average temperature of the city is 16.8 °C, while the average of the highest and lowest recorded temperatures are 29.2 °C, and 4.7 °C, respectively.

The long history of civilization, culture and art of this city has left many historical and cultural places such as the tombs of the two great Persian poets Saadi and Hafez, alongside the natural views.
